Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu (1,400m/4,593ft)

Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, you will be greeted and transferred to your hotel. After checking in, you can rest or explore nearby attractions such as Thamel, Durbar Square, and local markets. In the evening, attend a trek briefing session and meet your guide.

Day 2: Fly to Bhadrapur and Drive to Taplejung (1,820m/5,971ft)

Early morning, take a domestic flight from Kathmandu to Bhadrapur, enjoying scenic views of the Himalayas from the plane. From Bhadrapur, embark on a long drive through winding roads and lush hills to reach Taplejung, the starting point of your trek. Overnight stay in Taplejung.

Day 3: Trek from Taplejung to Mitlung (921m/3,021ft)

Begin your trek with a descent to the Tamor River, passing through terraced fields and small villages. The trail is a mix of gentle ascents and descents, with beautiful landscapes surrounding you. Overnight in Mitlung, a small village by the river.

Day 4: Trek from Mitlung to Chirwa (1,270m/4,166ft)

Today’s trek involves crossing suspension bridges and walking through lush forests. The trail gradually ascends and descends, taking you through several Limbu and Rai villages. Chirwa is a charming village with traditional houses and cardamom plantations. Overnight in Chirwa.

Day 5: Trek from Chirwa to Sekathum (1,650m/5,413ft)

The trek continues through dense forests and along the Ghunsa River. The path is undulating, with several ups and downs. You’ll pass through the village of Tapethok and cross multiple suspension bridges. Sekathum, your destination for the day, is a beautiful spot surrounded by forests. Overnight in Sekathum.

Day 6: Trek from Sekathum to Amjilosa (2,498m/8,196ft)

Today’s trek is more challenging, with steep ascents and descents. The trail leads you through rhododendron and bamboo forests, with occasional views of waterfalls. You’ll climb steeply at times, making your way to Amjilosa, a small settlement perched on a hillside. Overnight in Amjilosa.

Day 7: Trek from Amjilosa to Gyabla (2,730m/8,957ft)

The trek from Amjilosa to Gyabla takes you through beautiful forests of rhododendron, oak, and bamboo. The trail involves several ups and downs, crossing streams and rivers along the way. Gyabla is a small Tibetan-influenced village where you will spend the night. Overnight in Gyabla.

Day 8: Trek from Gyabla to Ghunsa (3,595m/11,794ft)

Today’s trek involves a gradual ascent through pine and rhododendron forests. As you approach Ghunsa, you’ll notice the Tibetan influence with prayer flags and chortens along the way. Ghunsa is a large village with a monastery, making it an important cultural and spiritual center. Overnight in Ghunsa.

Day 9: Acclimatization Day in Ghunsa

Spend the day in Ghunsa to acclimatize. You can take short hikes around the village, visit the local monastery, and enjoy the stunning views of the surrounding peaks. This day is crucial for adjusting to the higher altitude and preparing for the tougher days ahead. Overnight in Ghunsa.

Day 10: Trek from Ghunsa to Khambachen (4,050m/13,287ft)

Today’s trek takes you higher into the mountains, following the Ghunsa River. The trail is challenging, with several steep ascents. You’ll pass through beautiful landscapes, including alpine meadows and glacial moraines. As you approach Khambachen, the views of the surrounding peaks become more dramatic. Overnight in Khambachen.

Day 11: Acclimatization Day in Khambachen

Another acclimatization day, this time in Khambachen. You can take a short hike to Jannu Base Camp for spectacular views of Mount Jannu and surrounding peaks. This helps you to acclimatize further while enjoying the breathtaking scenery. Overnight in Khambachen.

Day 12: Trek from Khambachen to Lhonak (4,780m/15,682ft)

Continue your trek with a gradual ascent to Lhonak, passing through rocky terrain and glacial moraines. The trail offers magnificent views of the Kanchenjunga massif. Lhonak is situated near the Kanchenjunga Glacier and provides stunning panoramic views. Overnight in Lhonak.

Day 13: Trek to Kanchenjunga Base Camp (5,143m/16,873ft) and Return to Lhonak

Today, you’ll trek to Kanchenjunga Base Camp, also known as Pangpema. The trail follows the glacier, with incredible views of the north face of Kanchenjunga and surrounding peaks. After spending some time at the base camp, you’ll return to Lhonak for the night. Overnight in Lhonak.

Day 14: Trek from Lhonak to Ghunsa

Retrace your steps back to Ghunsa, enjoying the familiar trails and the beauty of the landscape. The descent is much easier, and you can appreciate the scenery with a new perspective. Overnight in Ghunsa.
